Over the past eight years, Elana Jacobs has taught more than 6,500 hours of individual Pilates sessions in highly regarded Pilates Studios in New York, Seattle and Chicago. During these sessions, she has witnessed firsthand how this form of therapy can be profoundly healing.
During this same period, Elana has also been the Artistic Director of a performing arts company called CabinFever that she co-founded. CabinFever collaborates directly with families or organizations to create and rehearse (during intensive 7-10 days “incubation periods”) original dance, music, and art that convey their stories.
Through her work with CabinFever, in addition to family homes, Elana has been commissioned to create new choreographed pieces for memorable events in awe-inspiring spaces, including in Chicago at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Theaster Gates’ Stony Island Arts Bank, andthe Soho House, as well as in Seattle at the Stimson Green Mansion under a generous grant from 4Culture Seattle.
Elana also has been honored with recognition in City Arts Magazine of Seattle, together with invitations for Artist Residencies in Seattle at Town Hall, in Chicago at the Florsheim Mansion, and Links Hall, as well as internationally at Can Seratt in Barcelona (March 2018), and the Mudhouse Residency in Greece (June 2018).
In order to effectively teach these elements in ’Art & Core’ Elana has drawn from her own teaching and artistic directing experiences, together with the strategies of the best communicators from her experiences as a dance and exercise science student at Skidmore College, from numerous workshop experiences with renowned dance companies, including Batsheva, Joe Goode, Bill T Jones, and Doug Varone, as well as her teachers and role models in highly regarded Pilates Studios in New York, Seattle and Chicago.
